The two crystallization pathways identified in this study: Pathway 1 (Fh-Lp-Mt: the growth mechanism of Fe3O4 is oriented attachment), and Pathway 2 (Fh-Lp-Gt-Mt: the growth mechanism of Fe3O4 is interface-controlled growth). Fh: 5Fe2O3∙9H2O, Lp: γ-FeO(OH), Gt: α-FeO(OH), Mt: Fe3O4.
