Continent designation is based on FishStatJ version 3.04.625 and details are provided in Supplementary Table 2. Gray shading indicates the interquartile ranges (IQR, the 75th and 25th percentiles). Units are Tg P yr−1. Note that the Soviet Union is assigned as part of East Europe before its collapse and countries are assigned into different continents according to their geo-location after the collapse.
