Positive values indicate an expansion of the respective land cover, negative values a contraction. The CCI-LC classification system is converted to the IPCC land classes to facilitate interpretation. See Supplementary Table 3 for the cross-walking table translating from one land classification system to the other. Supplementary Fig. 1 shows the maps of the major land cover transitions.
