The MLL-fusion protein directly promotes MBNL1 gene overexpression, resulting in changes in alternative splicing of target RNA transcripts (typically decreased intron retention and therefore decreased nonsense-mediated decay/increased intact transcripts) which are central to the MLL-rearranged leukemia program.
