Deformation in the Mojave is associated with corner flow distributed over a wide shear zone that accommodates the restraining step-over between more localized shear zones below the Carrizo and Coachella sections of the San Andreas fault. Faults that escaped out of the shear zone, like the Ludlow fault, become inactive. As the extrusion of the Mojave block continues, the White Wolf fault may materialize the triple junction at the big bend of the San Andreas fault. The stars represent large earthquakes in the last century.
