Mass-selected coronene cations with kinetic energies of 8 keV are passed through a gas cell containing a dilute He gas in order to induce fragmentation in a small fraction of the C24H\({}_{12}^{+}\) ions that pass the cell. Selected fragments (C23H\({}_{x}^{+}\) or C22H\({}_{x}^{+}\)) or intact ions (C24H\({}_{12}^{+}\)) are stored (in separate measurements) in one of the DESIREE rings for stability measurements. The electrostatic beamline elements are indicated by gray boxes that are labeled in the upper ring. Only the lower ring is used in these experiments. Neutral products formed along the two straight sections are detected by microchannel plate (MCP) detectors. The cryogenic region is indicated by the thin black line enclosing both rings.
