The laser is divided into two parts: the optical pump and the signal. The pump is pulsed via an acousto-optic modulator (AOM). The signal part is frequency up-shifted using a single sideband modulator (SSB). The optical pump and signal are combined and sent to the device under test (DUT) in a dilution refrigerator via an optical fiber. The microwave signals are sent and received using a single port via a circulator. Optical and microwave output signals are measured with heterodyne detection.
