Phosphorylation of SLAC1 in the cytosolic domain formed by the N-terminal and C-terminal tails leads to structural rearrangements which triggers the plug region’s dissociation from the transmembrane domain and releases its inhibition to the pore. Release of the cytosolic plug also induces structural rearrangement in the pore-forming helices, dilating the pore to allow anion permeation.
