Growth was examined in minimal medium containing 500 mM methanol, ampicillin and streptomycin. b Growth phenotype of MEcoli_ref_1 in minimal medium supplemented with 500 mM methanol. Growth was examined by measuring absorbance at 600 nm in a microplate reader. The measured absorbance values were converted to OD600 values by a calibration curve.
