UV-Vis absorption spectrum (panel a) and UV resonance Raman spectra of C8, excited using synchrotron radiation at three different wavelengths: 226 nm (\({|0\rangle }_{g}\to {|0\rangle }_{e}\), b), 216 nm (\({|0\rangle }_{g}\to {|1\rangle }_{e}\), c), and 206 nm (\({|0\rangle }_{g}\to {|2\rangle }_{e}\), d). The signals above 6000 cm−1 in all panels are magnified to highlight low-intensity signals. The vibrational lines of the solvent are shadowed by white boxes. The spectra are normalized to the CN stretching peaks of acetonitrile.
