In cold environment, while PKA is activated, MYPT1-PP1β is inactivated through PKA-mediated MYPT1 phosphorylation, which in turn efficiently phosphorylates JMJD1A and RLC and induces Ucp1 expression through H3K9me2 demethylation and actomyosin-YAP/TAZ-mediated transcription. In cold stress-free environment, PKA is de-activated and inactive PKA leaves MYPT1-PP1β active (unphosphorylated form), which turns ‘off’ the phosphorylation and Ucp1 transcription.
