Loss of certain RG/RGG domains (NUCL-1, GARR-1) may bring the concentration below a critical threshold at which nucleolar sub-compartments can organize. Below this threshold, some small-scale organization of FC and GC regions may still occur (FC fibrillar center, GC granular component).
