Limonene oxidation intermediates/products (green) are likely to have twice as many oligomerization sites (orange; i.e., peroxy radicals (RO2·) and functional groups) as α-pinene oxidation intermediates/products (blue) due to the higher number of double bonds in the precursor molecule. This may lead to much higher oligomerization degrees for secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed in pure limonene (LIM) experiment compared to in pure α-pinene (APN) and simultaneous oxidation (MIX) experiments.
