Five 0.4 µL droplets containing 10 mM HAuCl4 and 1 M NaCl are pipetted onto a glass slide with a DCE droplet containing 0.1 M [NBu4][ClO4] pipetted into the center. A cover slip is placed on top of the droplets and transmission light microscopy shows the spontaneous emulsification and generation of DCE droplets in the aqueous phase over time.
