Blue and red arrows in (b) indicate the overall drift directions of grains. Panel (c) shows cell trajectories in 3D, evidencing the GB roughening and branching and the resulting tubular defect inside the red grain. See Supplementary Movies 3 of (a), and 5 of (c).
