Stacked UV-visible spectra acquired from the titration at ambient temperature of a solution of 2,4-dinitrophenol (1.1 mM in dry dichloromethane) with (a) imidazole, (b) benchmark foldamer 2 and (c) device 1. In each case 0–12 equiv of the additive was used, in 1 equiv increments.
