Two contiguous genes linked by IGG are co-transcribed into a bicistronic mRNA under the control of the same promoter. The mRNA is then translated into two individual proteins by the ribosome which is not released after translation of the upstream open reading frame (ORF), but rather resumes scanning and initiates the translation of the downstream ORF.
