During C. albicans infection, CLEC2D in dendritic cells forms homodimers or heterodimers with TLR2 to recognize β-glucan derived from C. albicans. This process triggers Smurf1-mediated K-48 linked ubiquitin degradation of MyD88, thereby inhibiting the activation of transcription factor IRF5 and subsequent IL-12 production.
