a (\({{{{{\rm{I}}}}}}\)) Initial photo-induced plucking of Au atom from substrate which is lifted into a diffusive layer within the SAM. (\({{{{{\rm{II}}}}}}\)) Collisions between Au atoms increase probability for their levitation on top of the SAM where mobility is low.
