It contains many small- to medium-sized NF-positive nerve fibers (red), however, only some have a myelin sheath as visualized by the anti-MBP staining (green). They are accompanied by bundles of large, myelinated (S100, green) nerve fibers (NF, red) (*). These types of fibers can also be seen attached to the intrafusal fibers (small arrows), suggesting robust proprioceptive reinnervation.
