The figure shows the results of SEC analysis of LDPE films that had been treated with “Ceres” and of LDPE films from control reactions. To acquire data for each sample type, 9 polymer film discs from 9 independent incubations were pooled together, dissolved in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and analyzed three times. Note that panel A features nine molar mass distribution curves (three traces per sample type) that are overlapping almost completely. Circular markers in panel B indicate individual results obtained for technical triplicates. Black horizontal lines denote average values whereas error bars represent standard deviations. The experiments were conducted for 70 h at 25 °C in the absence or presence of 1 mg/mL “Ceres” using in-house made additive-free LDPE films fully submerged in 20 mM HEPES, pH 7.0, supplied with 150 mM NaCl and 5% (v/v) glycerol. The pristine LDPE samples were not subjected to any type of treatment. Mw, weight average molar mass; Mn, number average molar mass. Source data are provided as a Source Data file.
