a Energy gap in the many-body spectrum with respect to the QAHC ground states. The regions where the single-particle band is not isolated appear in white. The many-body spectra have been generated for a system of Ns = 21 sites with generating vectors R1 = (4, −1), R2 = (1, 5). b Ratio between the energy gap Es,g and the bandwidth Δs of the single-particle band. The band has a Chern number C = 2 in the region where it is well isolated (see Supplementary Fig. 6).
