Pb isotope data of crust Haxby are shown by circles. The purple and blue circles mark 5-point running mean Pb isotope values during post- and pre-MBE interglacials, respectively. The red circle indicates the bulk composition analysed by the conventional approach30. Coloured squares denote Pb isotope data from discrete surface scrapings of ferromanganese nodules40,83 shown in Fig. 1. These Pb isotope data from Southern Ocean and South Pacific nodules are used to reflect pre-industrial Pb isotope signals of southern- and north Pacific-sourced deep waters, respectively.
