a A 1D array of evanescently coupled waveguides on a fused silica sample, designed with the following parameters: waveguide radius \(a=7\mu m\), core-to-core distance \(r=19.6\mu m\), refractive index difference \(\varDelta n={n}_{{core}}-{n}_{{clad}}\,=\,0.5\times {10}^{-3}\), \({n}_{{clad}}={{\mathrm{1,457}}}\), wavelength \(\lambda=800{nm}\). The waveguides follow a 5th-order super-Gaussian profile and the index gradient between neighboring elements is set at \(1\%\varDelta n\). b Beam propagation method simulations of light funneling at \(P\approx 250{kW}\).
