Phase contrast and fluorescence microscopy of B. subtilis wild-type (WT) and ΔliaH cells stained with 1 µg/ml Nile red (shown in magenta) and treated with 4 µg/ml daptomycin (shown in cyan) for 60 min. Due to the intrinsic fluorescence of daptomycin, its localisation can be directly observed. Scale bar, 3 µm. Strains used: B. subtilis 168 (WT) and CD11 (ΔliaH).
