In Fig. 1 of the original Article, the stage boundaries in the left-hand Epoch/Age (Stage) panel were incorrectly segmented during redrafting. The geological time axis (360–250 Ma) and all accompanying panels and datasets are unaffected. Figure 1 has now been replaced with a corrected version. In the Supplementary Information, the same boundary-segmentation error occurred in Figs S1 and S2 and has been corrected accordingly. The results and conclusions remain unchanged.
