The optical density (OD) values at 600 nm are presented, excluding the baseline OD of the growth medium. The isolates are separated according to lifestyle and genus. Temperatures are colour-coded (33 °C, purple; 37 °C, cyan). Isolates that show no growth only grow at temperatures up to 23 °C or 28 °C (Supplementary Figs. 21, 22).
