Results of fitting the structure factor \(S\left(q\right)\) to the start of the prenucleation stage and crystalline stage of each portlandite (a) and gypsum (b) system. The structure factor was fitted at increasing intervals of added calcium concentration. For each system, the shaded region in the same colour as the curve represents the interval between the start of the drop of the transmittance and the start of the drop of the free calcium concentration, corresponding to the nucleation stage shown in Fig. 2.
