The quasi-free electron spin of a highly strained SiV (blue), with opaque and solid circles representing next-nearest carbon (C) atoms, is used as an optically addressable communication qubit. Hyperfine coupled and interconnected 13C nuclear spins ni are used as a quantum register with mutual entanglement (shaded blue area).
