Immunofluorescence staining of WNV-infected human cerebral organoids for WNV envelope protein, adult neurons (MAP2), astrocytes (GFAP) or microglia (CD68) and cell nuclei (DAPI). Depicted is one infected organoid at 14 dpi. Similar staining patterns were observed in two additional organoids. a The staining revealed WNV envelope protein in small foci in outer areas of the organoids. These areas were observed to be rich in adult neurons and astrocytes. b No microglia were detected in the areas positive for WNV envelope protein. Instead, singular microglia were observed throughout the organoids. Scale bars, 100 µm. Source data are provided as a Source Data file.
