Extended Data Table 4 Bayesian model comparison for hydrocarbon candidates in the atmosphere of K2-18 b (part 1 of 2)

From: Challenges in the detection of gases in exoplanet atmospheres

  1. Model preferences for named hydrocarbons, expressed as the difference in Bayesian evidence relative to a model including only CH4 and CO2. For JExoRES (†), the reference model has \(\ln {\mathcal{Z}}=212.28\); for JexoPipe (‡), \(\ln {\mathcal{Z}}=207.77\). Reported ‘detection significances’ correspond to the relative preference for models including CH4 and CO2, and one additional species. For comparison, DMS and DMDS yield preferences of 2.90σ (DMS), 2.83σ (DMDS), and 2.98σ (DMS+DMDS) for JExoRES and 2.98σ (DMS), 2.74σ (DMDS) and 3.02σ (DMS+DMDS) for JexoPipe.
