Partial effect surfaces (a, c, e) display the estimated tensor-product smooth interaction between ALAN and night duration, as derived from the final GAMMs in Supplementary Table 9. Panels b, d and e show partial autocorrelation functions of the model residuals (at day of the month lags), indicating the degree of remaining temporal autocorrelation after model fitting. Dashed blue lines represent approximate 95% confidence intervals for the null hypothesis of white noise.
