In the left two columns, EOFs were calculated without removal of GMSST anomalies (that is, based on total SST anomalies). In the right two columns, EOFs were calculated following the removal of GMSST anomalies. The PBP is labelled in the EOF1 based on total SST anomalies for 1994–2023.
