The figure displays the pictures of large and small coarse roots representative of the Belgian dataset for mature Fagus sylvatica (a) and Betula pendula (b) in autumn 2020 and for saplings of Fagus sylvatica (c), Betula pendula (d), Quercus robur (e) and Populus tremula (f) in autumn 2017, 4 measurements were done per coarse root and 1040 coarse roots were analyzed.
