Metagenome-associated genomes (MAGs) were categorized into microbial response groups (Winter-Adapted n = 17 MAGs, Snowmelt-Specialist n = 76 MAGs, Spring-Adapted n = 39 MAGs, Fall-Adapted = 35 MAGs) using hierarchical clustering based on the date of each MAG’s maximum abundance inferred from genome coverage. Percent of Total Community DNA Coverage (y-axis; panel a) is the sum of genome coverage for each MAG within a response group on each date divided by the total genome coverage for all MAGs. MAGs are classified at the taxonomic Order level. MAGs with taxonomic identity that could not be resolved at the Order level were assigned a taxonomic affiliation based on the finest level of taxonomy that could be resolved.
