By artificially engineering the interface between two media 1 and 2, an abrupt phase shift dependent on the position along the interface is introduced in the acoustic path, giving rise to the generalized Snell’s law of reflection and refraction. Such an artificial interface can be realized by a monolayer of meta-atoms with subwavelength thickness, namely, a metasurface. θi, angle of incidence; θr, angle of reflection; θt, angle of transmission; ϕ(x), phase discontinuity.
