Cellobionic acid was the only product detected, supporting C1-carbon regioselectivity. Although molecular docking studies indicate that the enzyme likely recognizes the non-reducing end of cellulose, we cannot rule out the possibility of reducing end recognition since subsequent catalytic cycles on the same cellulose chain could also generate cellobionic acid.
