Extended Data Table 1 Model selection of invertebrate decomposition and herbivory models via Akaike Information Criterion (AIC)

From: Stronger El Niños reduce tropical forest arthropod diversity and function

  1. MONI stands for Maximum Oceanic Niño Index (maximum value within one year), and a smooth function on that variable (MONIsmooth) was included in all candidate models. Long-term change in process rates were independently tested as each of a non-0 gradient across the entire time range (Time), a non-0 gradient only before the year 2000 (TimePre-2000), and a non-0 gradient only after the year 2000 (TimePost-2000). Lag refers to the temporal lag in process rate behind the recorded ONI and was relevant to invertebrate contribution to decomposition only. Selected candidate models are bold.
