Confirmation of the AluY insertion by allele-specific PCR and gel electrophoresis. DNA fragments approximately 240Â bp in size containing a chimeric sequence of RP1 and AluY were detected in patients with retinitis pigmentosa but not in control. These samples were derived from the same experiment and gels were processed in parallel.
