From: Serum butyrylcholinesterase activity as a predictor of severity and mortality in COVID-19 patients

Serum BChE activity according to sex (A), age (B) and mortality (C). There was no significant difference in BChE activity between female (n = 265) and male (n = 197) patients (P = 0.3644), while there was a significant decline in BChE activity in patients ≥ 65 years (n = 171) compared to those < 65 years (P < 0.0001, n = 291). The results showed a significant reduction in BChE activity in deceased patients (n = 26) compared to discharged (n = 436) patients (P < 0.0001). BChE - Butyrylcholinesterase; ≥65 years - of age 65 of older; <65 years - younger than 65 years.
