Correction to: Scientific Reports https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-024-83593-z, published online 04 February 2025

The original version of this Article contained errors in Fig. 3, where the x-axes in panels (b) and (c) were incorrectly labelled as “Substantia Nigra χ (ppb)”. The correct label for the x-axis in panel (b) now reads “Substantia Nigra PCS (ppb)” and the correct x-axis label in panel (c) now reads “Putamen DCS (ppb)”. The original Fig. 3 and accompanying legend appear below.

Significant negative linear correlations in the prodromal alpha-synucleinopathy group were identified between DaT-SPECT SBR Z-scores in the putamen and in the substantia nigra (A), PCS in the substantia nigra (B) and DCS in the putamen (C). Panels A and B indicate that greater dopaminergic degeneration at the putamen level, reflected by a lower SBR Z-score from DaT-SPECT, is associated with an increase in concentration of paramagnetic sources (greater and PCS), attributable to iron accumulation. Panel C shows that greater dopaminergic degeneration at the putamen level is also correlated with a decrease in the concentration of diamagnetic sources in the putamen.
