Proposed mechanism for the effect of S. horneri on lipid accumulation in hepatic and adipocytes. S. horneri treatment suppresses fatty acid synthesis by activating AMPK, which leads to the down regulation of lipogenesis-related transcription factor SREBP-1, and downregulated the lipogenic enzymes such as ACC, and FAS. In addition, the activation of AMPK may also enhance the fatty acid oxidation by increasing the CPT-1 expressions.
