From: Dermoscopically informed deep learning model for classification of actinic keratosis and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma

Features

Description

Actinic keratoses features

 Strawberry pattern

Erythematous pseudonetwork with prominent follicles surrounded by white halos; characteristic of facial AKs.

 Fine white-yellowish scales

Thin, superficial desquamation often seen on the lesion surface.

 Gray dots / irregular pigmentation

Small gray perifollicular granules or asymmetrical pigment structures.

 White-yellowish structureless areas

Homogeneous keratin clods with no internal pattern.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma features

 Hairpin vessels with white halo

Curved linear vessels shaped like hairpins, often surrounded by a thin white keratin halo.

 Glomerular vessels

Dotter red vessels arranged in clusters.

 Thick scaling / keratin masses

Coarse, adherent scales or yellowish central keratin plugs.

 Ulceration / hemorrhagic crusts

Surface erosions or blood crusts suggestive of lesion invasion and tissue breakdown.

  1. The table lists characteristic dermoscopic patterns of AKs and cSCC, describing scales, pigmentation, vascular structures, and surface changes.
