The dashed line represents \(\Delta SUHI_{A} = \Delta SUHI_{P}\). The sizes of the bubbles are proportional to the population growth (million) from 2003 to 2020. Colors from green to purple represent the difference between the trends of the population- and area-weighted max surface heat island \(\Delta (SUHI_{P} - SUHI_{A} )\) [K/decade]. This difference between the two trends of SUHI shows the contribution from intra-city population distribution to the population exposure to surface temperature extremes.
