The response in the standard deviation of the NAO index (gray) is decomposed to contributions from the southern ("high''; red) and northern ("low''; blue) nodes for (a) DJF and (b) JJA, and green bars show the covariance term. The bars show the multi-model means, and error bars are 95% range from bootstrapping the model mean. The maps show the multi-model mean response for DJF and JJA.
