a Living cells were cultured with 100 μM of 1d for 1 h in fluorescence images with excitation and emission wavelengths of 555 and 560 nm, respectively. Scale bar = 50 μm. b Fluorescence intensity was measured by image analysis software (ZEN; Carl Zeiss) in each cancer cell line. The amount of 1d uptake differed among the cell lines. Potent photo-induced cytotoxicity was observed in HeLa and HCT116 cells, and these cells took up more 1d than the other cells. N = 3 biologically independent samples. The error bars represent the standard deviation of the mean.
