  1. The association was tested by binary logistic (disease presence) or ordinal regression (disease severity) analysis under an additive genetic model adjusted by age, gender, BMI, centre of recruitment and number of PNPLA3 mutant alleles.
  2. The OR for ordinal regression was calculated as exponentials of the coefficient estimate and its CI.
