About the Editors
Like the other Nature titles, Nature Metabolism has no external editorial board. Instead, all editorial decisions are made by a dedicated team of professional editors, with relevant research and editorial backgrounds.
Chief Editor: Dr. rer. nat., Christoph Schmitt, Springer Nature, Germany
Christoph joined Nature Research in 2010 as an editor for the Nature Reviews journals. In 2012, he moved to Nature Communications, where he managed a team of editors handling a broad range of biomedical and translational research, including metabolic research. Christoph became Chief Editor of Nature Metabolism in 2018 to prepare the journal for its launch in 2019. He is passionate about mentorship and about educating the next generation of scientists. Christoph studied pharmacy at Heidelberg University, holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Vienna, and conducted postdoctoral work at University College London, investigating mitochondrial function and links between cellular energy metabolism and cell proliferation.
Senior Editor: Dr. rer. nat., Yanina-Yasmin Pesch, Springer Nature, Germany
Yanina joined Nature Metabolism in March 2022. She obtained her PhD in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Bonn, studying the hormonal control of growth and molting in Drosophila. She then pursued postdoctoral studies at the Life Sciences Institute, University of British Columbia, where she investigated cell differentiation, cell-cell communication and lipid metabolism in Drosophila spermatogenesis. Yanina is based in the Berlin office.

Senior Editor: Revati Dewal, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany
Revati joined Nature Metabolism in November 2023. She completed her Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology from The Ohio State University, studying adipose tissue and exercise as therapeutic strategies against cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. She then joined the Laboratory of Translational Nutritional Biology at ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher to study the converging and diverging effects of age, diet and sex on adipose tissue cellular composition and function. Revati is based in the Berlin office.

Associate Editor: Jean Nakhle, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany
Jean earned his PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Montpellier, France, studying the impact of mitochondria transfer in the tumor microenvironment on cancer metabolism and response to therapy. He later joined the Toulouse Cancer Research Center and the RESTORE Institute in Toulouse, France, as a postdoctoral researcher to study the role of lipid metabolism in cancer metastasis. His subsequent studies examined the impact of aging on brown adipose tissue-liver metabolic crosstalk. Jean joined the Research Cross-Journal Editorial team in April 2024, working with Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Medicine, and Nature Aging. He has worked with Nature Metabolism since October 2024, and became a permanent member of the Nature Metabolism team in July 2025. He is based in the Berlin office.
Associate Editor: Yunling Xie, PhD, Springer Nature, China
Yunling joined Nature Metabolism in September 2025. She completed her PhD at Sun Yat-sen University, China, where her research focused on the roles of microorganisms and metabolism in gastrointestinal diseases and cancer. Prior to joining Nature Metabolism, she served as an editor at Cell Research. Yunling is based in the Beijing office.
Associate Editor: Michael Neinast, PhD, Springer Nature, USA
Michael joined Nature Metabolism in January 2025. He completed his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied amino acid metabolism and adipocyte biology. He then joined the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University as a postdoctoral researcher, where he developed methods to quantify nutrient metabolism, with a focus on proteome dynamics. Michael is based in the Philadelphia office.
The Research Cross-Journal Editorial Team supports the Nature-branded research journals, with a focus on handling primary research manuscripts.
The Reviews Cross-Journal Editorial Team works across the Nature Reviews portfolio, as the need arises, handling content in the life, clinical, physical and social sciences.
