This figure illustrates how risk flows through supply chain stages and countries to refined sugar to the US. ‘Sugar beet and sugar cane supply’ is the agriculture stage, ‘sugar raw centrifugal’ and ‘sugar refined supply’, are the first and second stages of processing, respectively, and ‘sugar refined end-use’ refers to the consuming country (the US). Percentages provided correspond to the percentage contribution to risk in each stage, as measured in the units medium-risk hours equivalent (mrh-eq) per ton.
