a Zero temperature magnetisation of the spangolite Hamiltonian over the magnetic field hz at χB = 8, using CTMRG environments with χE = 64. Below hz ~ 56 T the strong antiferromagnetic J1 interaction leads to a vanishing magnetisation. Two plateaus at 1/3 and 2/3 of the saturation mS = 1/2 are found. b Magnetisation curve of spangolite at finite temperatures. The insets show the melting of the mz/mS = 1/3 and 2/3 magnetisation plateaus as an effect of increasing temperature. c, d Nearest-neighbour spin-spin correlations and local Sz expectation values for the 1/3 and 2/3 magnetisation plateaus, corresponding to values of c hz = 70 T and d hz = 90 T, respectively.
